Chairman of One Way Capital Calls for Fair Treatment of Expats: Mobile Fees and Passport Renewals Under Scrutiny

In a significant television intervention, Eng. Mohamed Sedky Al-Jaafari, Chairman of One Way Capital Group, addressed the challenges facing Egyptians abroad, emphasizing the need to balance government fees with the vital role expats play in supporting the national economy through consistent remittances.

Eng. Al-Jaafari highlighted the negative impact of high customs duties on mobile phones brought by Egyptians working abroad, noting that fees sometimes reach half the actual value of the device—an imbalance compared to international markets. Furthermore, he addressed issues regarding official service fees, such as passport renewals and national ID updates, calling for streamlined services and reduced costs to reflect the state’s appreciation for its expatriates.

In a proactive move, Al-Jaafari called for the establishment of an official union or representative body for workers abroad to defend their rights. He proposed allocating a symbolic portion of the fees they pay to a dedicated service fund, ensuring sustainable social care and protection for their interests globally.
